The only thing changing on the daily basis as rapidly as the weather is the algorithm on social media platforms. Prime example is TikTok which used to cater primarily to kids, but is becoming all-important as we see more and more big brands using this platform. To prevent losing this battle, Instagram started pushing video content with photos gradually losing their prominence. To make things even more ridiculous: short YouTube clips (Shorts) often accumulate more views than regular video content we’ve been associating with the platform.
The 16:9 format is on a rapid decline and the only rationale (no pun intended) videos are still exported in this ratio is because of YouTube and television.
Over the past two years, we’ve exported far more “story” format videos than the regular ones.
Doing videography over the course of the past 6-7 years with big brands such as Intersport, Exit, Dijamant, Merkur X Tip and many others, we’ve closely followed the trends set by social media platforms for promoting products and services and we want to share with you how you can create a video for your product or service while not going over your budget.
- Take Videos with Your Phone
99% of the content consumed on social media is shot on phones. Whether it’s Reels, Shorts, or TikToks, most of them are filmed using iPhones or Samsungs and edited right there on the same phone.
- Consider telling a story
Storytelling matters more than lighting, cameras, or editing. In just 15, 30, or 45 seconds, you need to creatively engage potential customers, drawing them to watch the next second, and the next one, and the one after that. Think outside the box and aim to be captivating!
- 60 seconds don’t have to be used just for “BUY MY PRODUCT, BUY MY PRODUCT!”
Take time to think about your brand, what you want to achieve, how you want to appear and how your customer will benefit from your product or service, then create a compelling story on these bases. Sometimes it’s enough to showcase the product for just 3 seconds at the end, especially if you’ve already explained why it’s essential for them.
- Recycle
If you have any old videos from a year or a few ago, feel free to recycle them. Cut them into 5, 10, or 15-second segments and share them on the forenamed platforms. Sometimes it’s just the algorithm being stubborn and preventing your video from going viral.
- Hire Professionals
If you still want your ad to look like it’s straight from TV, approach professionals who can make that happen.
